Batangas lomi, invented in Lipa City, is notable for the absence of vegetables and its thick delicious broth.


Buchi-buchi, a traditional Filipino snack, is still sold in many markets around Batangas.


Those of younger generations will probably say banana cue, but there are those in Batangas who still refer thos favorite as sundot-saging.


Called bilo-bilo or paridusdos elsewhere, Batangas' pinindot is frequently just plain rice balls sometimes with bits of sweet potato or nangka.

Meet Patrick Maravilla, Chef and Teacher

Meet Chef Patrick Maravilla, a young man who has an ongoing love affair with food and cooking. At the moment, though, he is very much enjoying his life as part of academe. Yet, by his own admission, he may yet one day decide to go ahead and fulfill a dream of owning his very own restaurant.

At the moment, teaching is as much a passion for Patrick as his toque and apron. He is a college instructor at De La Salle Lipa, one of the more prestigious schools in the province of Batangas. There, he teaches students who are enrolled in the school’s HRM and Tourism programs.

DLSL’s Renovated Café Barako Relaunched

De La Salle Lipa formally blessed and relaunched the newly renovated Café Le Barako last February 22 inside the school grounds. The café is inside the Chez Rafael, a laboratory hotel built in 1997 for Hotel and Restaurant Management students and named after the school’s late President Br. Rafael Donato FSC.Like the rest of the hotel, the café serves as a laboratory where students can practice skills learned in their lecture rooms. However, it also has its own staff to serve the needs of patrons when no student practicum classes are scheduled.
